Launched in 1962, the MGB quickly became the benchmark for affordable, accessible sports car performance, securing its place as one of the most popular sports cars of all time with over half a million units built. Its enduring aesthetic appeal is owed to the collaboration between MG and the renowned Italian styling house Pininfarina, delivering a sleek, modern, and instantly recognizable silhouette that remains captivating to this day.

This particular example represents a rare hardtop variant from the final years of the desirable chrome bumper styling. Built just before the transition to the less aesthetically favored rubber bumpers in late 1974, this MGB captures the model in its purest, most elegant form, characterized by the traditional chrome trims.

Adding significant value and charm is the car’s impeccable ownership history. This MGB was originally acquired in 1975by the late respected writer, Khun Chatchai Wisedsuvarnabhumi, known by the famous pen name “พนมเทียน” (Phanomthien). It later passed into the custodianship of the prominent collector, Khun Boonchai Bencharongkul, who has maintained the car with an utmost commitment to originality.

This MGB stands in remarkably well-preserved condition both inside and out and is noted to be largely untouched under the current ownership. The paintwork is complemented by bright, crisp chrome trims. The interior is well-presented with only slight, honest wear, and even the engine bay presents a clean and cared-for look that speaks volumes of its maintenance regimen. The only key modernization is the necessary addition of an air-conditioning system, thoughtfully installed to maximize driveability and comfort on Thai roads.

Under the current ownership, the vehicle is always stored in an air-conditioned environment and is subjected to regular warm-up intervals. MGB GT เปิดตัวในปี 1965 ตามหลังรุ่นเปิดหลังคาที่ทำตลาดตั้งแต่ปี 1963 รถ GT ออกแบบหลังคาโดย Pininfarina เป็นรูปแบบ Fastback ตามแบบฉบับรถ Grand Touring (GT) โดยจากเลขตัวถังรถคันนี้ผลิตในช่วงปีสุดท้ายที่ใช้กันชนโครเมียม เป็นสเปคที่เป็นที่ต้องการของนักสะสม ก่อนที่ MG จะเปลี่ยนไปใช้กันชนยางในรุ่นปีถัดไป

สิ่งที่เพิ่มคุณค่าและให้กับรถคันนี้คือประวัติการครอบครอง รถคันนี้ถูกจดทะเบียนในประเทศไทยครั้งแรกในปี 1975 โดยนักเขียน คุณฉัตรชัย วิเศษสุวรรณภูมิ ซึ่งเป็นที่รู้จักในนามปากกา “พนมเทียน” ผู้แต่งนิยาย “เพชรพระอุมา” อันโด่งดัง ต่อมาในปี 1999 รถได้ถูกส่งมอบสู่การดูแลของนักสะสม คุณบุญชัย เบญจรงคกุล ซึ่งได้ดูแลรักษารถคันนี้เป็นอย่างดีโดยเน้นความเป็นดั้งเดิมสูงสุด

MGB คันนี้อยู่ในสภาพที่ได้รับการอนุรักษ์อย่างดีเยี่ยมทั้งภายในและภายนอก ในการครอบครองปัจจุบันได้ให้ข้อมูลว่าสภาพรถถูกอนุรักษ์ไว้ดั้งเดิม ไม่มีการทำใหม่ใดๆ สีตัวถังภายนอกยังคงความสดใส ชิ้นส่วนโครเมียมเงางาม ภายในห้องโดยสารมีร่องรอยการสึกหรอเพียงเล็กน้อย รถมีการปรับแต่งเพียงอย่างเดียวคือการติดตั้งระบบปรับอากาศ เพื่อเพิ่มความสะดวกสบายในการขับขี่บนท้องถนนเมืองไทย
